Potato Snowmen Christmas Cards

Christmas Cards: Potato Snowmen

Christmas cards! You’re feeling festive and decide that’s it, you’re going to encourage your little one to hand-make Christmas cards for all your family. Then you realise that your little person isn’t going to sit there forever while you refine your card of dreams. So you need a simple design with minimum fuss. Great! I’ve got just the thing for you: Potato Snowmen. Cute cards with the added novelty factor of a potato to keep your little one engaged.

You need:

  • a potato (cut in half);
  • card (to be folded in half);
  • white paint (poured into a shallow container);
  • black felt tip;
  • orange felt tip;
  • glue; and
  • glitter.

Safety first: all suggested activities are intended to be carried out with adult supervision. Please refer to manufacturer’s guidelines for age suitability on all products. You know your little ones and whether an activity is appropriate for them. Encourage your little one to dip the potato into the paint, and splat it onto the card. Then, use the glue to create “snowflakes” and sprinkle the glitter on top. Finally, create eyes, a smile and arms using the black felt tip and a nose using the orange felt tip.

I found it easiest to make these with Ev in stages. We had a few “festive days” in November; one day we made the potato snowmen bodies, the next we added the glitter, and then he drew on the noses. I added the eyes, smile and arms as he does love a black marker and I didn’t want our festive scenes to be covered in black ink!

Maybe these aren’t going to win any awards, but our family all received an original card hand-made with lots of love and giggles. We had fun making them too!
